Kerry ( Ciarraí in Gaelic ) got its name from Ciar, son of Fergus Mac Roy, by Méabh or Méav, who was the celebrated Queen of Connaught, Ireland. In the 1st century, Ciar received a large territory in Munster and named it Ciar Rioghact (Ciar's Kingdom), which was anglicised to Kerry."
